Health Insurance Companies that Refuse to Cover the Sick Should Not Be Allowed to Operate
In Our States
The
Ranks of Ordinary People Who Have Become Health Care Reformers Is Growing
For the past five years NASRO has been actively participating in coalitions of groups in Massachusetts and California, working to place measures before the state legislature and the voters that will help to establish affordable universal health insurance for our members and the broader community. We have been the only national business association doing this work. We must do more.
Our work has finally begun to pay off when the state legislature and the Governor of Massachusetts passed into law a new health care reform law that will greatly expand coverage. There is still much work to be done and achieving affordable coverage will be difficult, but the door has been opened and there is no turning back.
Already, big states like California are seeking to join the ranks of the reform states. The Governor of California has a proposal that goes far beyond the Massachusetts model and the California legislature can be expected to open the door even further. But the basis for a compromise is likely to be worked out.
Without the active participation of citizens in this reform process we are likely to disappointed with the results. NASRO encourages you to pick up the phone and start a conversation with your state representative, assembly person or state senator. Find out who the health care reformers in your town are and meet them. If you are not already well informed on the issue, work out your own adult education plan and be prepared for setting up a meeting in your community with your local officials. Or call NASRO at 800-638-8113 and we will be happy to help you.
